A Fresh Courtyard Garden In Paddington With Californian Vibes

This project is a lesson in turning a small outdoor space into a fresh and elegant retreat – without the need for a lawn, or traditional flowering plants.

Originally a tired rear courtyard, Garden Life has introduced a textured and climate-appropriate design scheme in this Sydney garden. The result is a low-maintenance yet beautiful garden that mirrors the sophistication of its accompanying 1800s Paddington house, and also brings a touch of sunny Californian vibes!

Artist Miranda Skoczek On Single Parenting, Smelling The Roses + Spontaneity

Miranda Skoczek is an exceptionally talented and accomplished artist, but it’s not work or money that motivates her – it’s family.

Previously living in an inner-city apartment, Miranda moved to the Dandenongs five years ago with her son Harper (11) to be closer to nature. The pair share a home with Miranda’s aunt, Margaret/Gosia, which has afforded Miranda immense support as a parent, artist and individual.

We’ve featured Miranda’s work numerous times on The Design Files over the years, so it’s wonderful to gain this insight into her personal world.

Paul Bangay – The Design Files | Australia's most popular design blog.

Today we chat to one of Australia’s pioneering landscape designers, Paul Bangay. Ever since he was a child, Paul has been obsessed with gardens, and particularly lush, sprawling country gardens.

After completing a Bachelor of applied Science in Horticulture at Melbourne University, Paul went on to open his Toorak nursery, where he designed a courtyard in the space. From this example came countless local commissions, followed by national and then international requests. Three decades later, eight authored books, a team of 12 employees and 1000s of gardens in between, Paul has just released his latest book, Paul Bangay’s Country Gardens! This book features many of the beloved country gardens he has designed over the years, and is a retrospective keepsake of one of Australia’s top garden designers.

Georgina Reid caught up with Paul to find out more about this celebrated local designer.

Only time will tell which side reigns supreme, but there’s one thing we can calculate in advance: Whose fans are logging more goodies on game days vs. just a normal Sunday? We crunched the numbers in Atlanta and New England to figure out how much more pizza, wings, tortilla chips and beer MyFitnessPal users are logging on days their team plays. The results below may not predict Sunday’s big winner, but it definitely crowns one team’s fans as Super Snackers.
