A 1960s Penthouse With Magic + Zing!

There’s nothing we love more than a bold, bright, colour-rich renovation, so when this St Kilda project came across our desk, we got VERY excited!

With the help of Wowowa Architects and a stellar trades team, Rosalind Willett, managing partner of partnership and event design agency Willett Marketing, has completely refitted her 1960s penthouse, to feature jazzy spaces with a touch of glamour.

From coloured cabinetry to an incredible rooftop terrace, there is so much to love in this home!

A Malaysian-Inspired Adaptable House In Brisbane

To really get a sense for the way his clients wanted to live, architect John Ellway travelled to Penang in 2017 shortly before beginning this project in inner-city Brisbane. His clients were born and raised on this small island off the north-west coast of Malaysia, and wanted to bring a similar style of living to their new home in Paddington.

Due to the nature of their shift work, and the need to host family visiting from overseas (sometimes for months at a time), it was essential that their new house was adaptable to a fluctuating number of occupants. As a result, John designed a house that expanded and contracted as necessary: parts could be closed off for sleep or relaxation during the day, and other parts activated when family members or friends arrived to stay.

Filled with light, air and views to the lush natural surrounds, this house breathes in and out, to calmly ensconce its inhabitants.

'Pana-Bon' Appetit – The Design Files | Australia's most popular design blog.

Today we’re sad to say goodbye to Pana Chocolate, and head chef Amber Roche who has wowed us with her inspired raw, vegan recipes this month!

We’re closing the series with a particularly decadent sweet treat – the ‘Pana-Bon’ Appetit, which is Pana’s version of the insanely indulgent Maxibon ice cream!  These delicious ice cream sandwiches are created using a coconut-based ice cream and a nut-flour biscuit base, before being dipped in melted Pana Chocolate (of course!).

HUGE thanks to Amber and the Pana team for joining us this month!

familycreative-peopleINTRODUCING... The TDF Kids Art Awards, With Honan!

OMG. This is a BIG day people! Today we’re launching something The Design Files has never done before, and we are PRETTY pumped about it.

Introducing… the TDF Kids Art Awards, proudly presented by Honan!

For the next three weeks, we’re inviting kids up to the age of 16 to submit an artwork that responds to the theme of ‘Australia’. There’s $2000 each up for grabs, for FIVE winners in five different age-groups  (as well as 15 runners up prizes), and 100% of entry fees will be donated directly to Children’s Ground, an incredible organisation that supports the next generation of Aboriginal children, and their communities.

Whether you’ve got a mini Matisse, Basquiat, or interpretive scribbler in your world, we want the kids of Australia to show us what they’ve got!

Entries are open from now until Sunday April 18th via the TDF Kids Art  Awards website!
