An Eclectic Family Beach House on the Mornington Peninsula

If this home looks a little familiar to you… that’s because it is! Like most businesses, we’ve had to make a few changes to the way we do things lately. We can’t send photographers out to shoot all the incredible Australian homes we usually shoot, just for the time being. Don’t worry…. we’ve still got some EPIC never-before-seen houses stored up to get us through the next few months. But we’ll also be revisiting a favourite home from the TDF archives every few weeks, just to take the pressure off a bit!

First up we’re revisiting the Balnarring beach house of communications and PR whiz Kate Dinon, where she and her family have been bunkering down full time to weather the COVID-19 storm.

Kate is passionate about Australian art, design and creative collaboration, and has a close network of talented creative friends, including interior designer Chelsea Hing, who helped design this home. Today, we speak with Kate about transforming a daggy 60’s besser brick home into a chic family retreat, with her husband Alex Ksugas, and children Marlow (5) and Grace (3).

Before + After: See A Victorian House Completely Restored After Fire

Just a few years ago, this Hawthorn, Victoria, home was nothing more than a rundown 1880s Victorian facade with four heavily fire-damaged rooms. The heritage-protected property was going to be a huge undertaking to restore, but Matt and Fiona Olaes were up to the challenge.

With the expertise of architects Robson Rak, builder Lane Project Management, and Ben Scott Garden Design, the original elements of this property have been reinstated alongside a light-filled, flowing extension.

The completed home is one of properties on show at the upcoming Open Houses 2022 hosted by St Joseph’s School Hawthorn.

A Visit to the Blue Mountains with Jono Fleming, and Ford Puma

TravelA Visit to the Blue Mountains with Jono Fleming, and Ford Puma

You might recall late last year we shared a little video featuring a day trip out to Mitchelton Estate in the all new Ford Puma! Well, six months on, we’re BACK in the Puma, sharing another dreamy day trip – this time with stylist Jono Fleming, who gives us a tour of the incredible Blue Mountains region, just around 90 minutes out of central Sydney.

It was an easy drive out to Katoomba with Jono in the sporty Ford Puma, with all its nifty features, like the FordPass Connect remote unlock feature (to unlock your car from a distance via your phone), and remote start – especially useful in chilly temperatures! There’s also Apple CarPlay, to access music and other apps from your smart phone using the screen on the dashboard.

The Blue Mountains is a breathtaking destination – those views really are something else!  Jono has been coming to the region for years with his family, and was the ultimate tour guide, taking us to all his favourite scenic spots. We also visited the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, incorporating the Blue Mountains City Art Gallery – one of New South Wales’ most impressive regional galleries, with an incredible program of contemporary art (not to mention its own epic lookout spot, with 180 degree views across the town to the mountains beyond).

At the time of our visit, the City Art Gallery was showing ‘Oceans From Here’ – a touring contemporary photography exhibition themed around water, and ‘This Changes Everything’, a powerful collection of artwork inspired by the dramatic events of 2019 and 2020, curated by the centre’s very own art curator, Rilka Oakley. Aside from viewing the gallery’s rotating program of exhibitions, there’s also ‘Into The Blue’ – a permanent, immersive exhibition incorporating video, photography and sound, celebrating the unique beauty of the Blue Mountains region.

It was a joy to spend a day immersed in the Blue Mountains thanks to Ford – we hope you enjoy Art en Route With Jono Fleming!

With it’s sleek silhouette and sporty looks, you can expect big things from the Ford Puma. Find out more and book your test drive here.
