Spiced Lentil and Mixed Beetroot Salad – The Design Files | Australia's most popular design blog.

I’m quite partial to a substantial salad – for me, a great salad really has to be filling! For this reason, I often use grains such as quinoa, rice, or cous cous. However, for those who prefer to go grain-free, Lentils are the solution!

Lentils and beetroots are perfect partners – together they lend this dish a woody autumnal flavour, spiced with cumin and sumac, and finished with goats cheese.

Sydney landscape designer and editor of The Planthunter joins us again today with Plant / Life, her monthly garden column!  Today Georgina introduces the lush Redfern garden of fashion designer turned garden designer Ian McMaugh.  It’s a treasure trove of unusual plantings and epiphytes (plants that grow on other plants) – the perfect treatment for a challenging and very tiny outdoor space! – Lucy

A Visit to the Blue Mountains with Jono Fleming, and Ford Puma

TravelA Visit to the Blue Mountains with Jono Fleming, and Ford Puma

You might recall late last year we shared a little video featuring a day trip out to Mitchelton Estate in the all new Ford Puma! Well, six months on, we’re BACK in the Puma, sharing another dreamy day trip – this time with stylist Jono Fleming, who gives us a tour of the incredible Blue Mountains region, just around 90 minutes out of central Sydney.

It was an easy drive out to Katoomba with Jono in the sporty Ford Puma, with all its nifty features, like the FordPass Connect remote unlock feature (to unlock your car from a distance via your phone), and remote start – especially useful in chilly temperatures! There’s also Apple CarPlay, to access music and other apps from your smart phone using the screen on the dashboard.

The Blue Mountains is a breathtaking destination – those views really are something else!  Jono has been coming to the region for years with his family, and was the ultimate tour guide, taking us to all his favourite scenic spots. We also visited the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, incorporating the Blue Mountains City Art Gallery – one of New South Wales’ most impressive regional galleries, with an incredible program of contemporary art (not to mention its own epic lookout spot, with 180 degree views across the town to the mountains beyond).

At the time of our visit, the City Art Gallery was showing ‘Oceans From Here’ – a touring contemporary photography exhibition themed around water, and ‘This Changes Everything’, a powerful collection of artwork inspired by the dramatic events of 2019 and 2020, curated by the centre’s very own art curator, Rilka Oakley. Aside from viewing the gallery’s rotating program of exhibitions, there’s also ‘Into The Blue’ – a permanent, immersive exhibition incorporating video, photography and sound, celebrating the unique beauty of the Blue Mountains region.

It was a joy to spend a day immersed in the Blue Mountains thanks to Ford – we hope you enjoy Art en Route With Jono Fleming!

With it’s sleek silhouette and sporty looks, you can expect big things from the Ford Puma. Find out more and book your test drive here.
