A Designer’s ‘Curated Maximalist’ Apartment in Sydney

Many interior designers we know tend to err on the side of minimalism – not Jono Fleming! Since moving into his Waterloo apartment in 2015, this Sydney designer has been steadily creating an art and plant-filled haven reflective of his vibrant personality.

Jono’s apartment was newly built when he moved in, allowing him to place his own stamp on the interiors. He chose this building because it was designed by revered Australian design firm SJB, who had instilled a sense of history and character into the space.

A Weekend (and a giveaway!) At Lindenderry

TravelA Weekend (and a giveaway!) At Lindenderry

Lindenderry at Red Hill was first opened by the Lancemore Group in 1995, and like most 23-year-olds, was ready for a reinvention, of sorts. Melbourne-based interiors firm Hecker Guthrie was recently commissioned to reinvigorate the restaurant, lobby and public spaces within the boutique hotel, and have brought their signature contemporary aesthetic to this country charmer.

Upon checking in, my boyfriend and I were shown to our HUGE room with generous views of the magnificent grounds (side note: the reservation had prematurely married us under my surname, ‘Mr and Mrs Tabart’ – what a progressive couple we are!). First things first, we reviewed the comfiness of the bed and the fluffiness of the robes. I am pleased to report that both received full marks.

With its own private lake(!), well-loved tennis court and vast, manicured greenery, the splendour of the gardens should not be understated. Fully-stocked picnic baskets are on offer for hotel guests to enjoy amongst the trees, and it’s easy to imagine lazing around with cheese and wine on a sunny day. Deep regrets about not doing this.

Inside, the palette emulates natural colours and materials, and every opportunity has been taken to reference the beautiful surrounds. Crisp, architectural elements such as reeded glass provide a structural facelift, whilst Scandi-style furnishings (think blonde timber bench seats with sleek leather cushions) complete the look.

Whilst retaining the integrity of Lindenderry’s classic country style, Hecker Guthrie’s refurbishment of the common spaces and restaurant has brought a new edge to the boutique hotel. ‘Lindenderry is a contemporary take on the traditional estate home,’ says the interiors firm, ‘the overall look-and-feel has an English sensibility, with a distinct Australian touch.’

We’re offering a lucky reader the opportunity to win the ultimate weekend away at Lindenderry, including:

– 2 Night stay at Lindenderry*
– 1 x Dinner for two with matching wines
– 1 x Picnic for two in vineyards
