Zanahorias · Argentinian Roasted carrots with maple syrup and coriander pesto – The Design Files | Australia's most popular design blog.

A new month means a new Tasty Tuesday, and this month we’re in new territory, with an Argentinian menu care of the good folks at The Independent, Gembrook!

The Independent is a joint venture, combining the considerable talents of Argentinian chef Mauro Callegari, and the Gordon family of Robert Gordon Australia. The Gordon family have been in Gembrook for five generations, and as a result own a few properties throughout the town. With strong connections to the Melbourne hospitality industry through their supply of bespoke crockery for various local restaurants, the Gordons came to know Mauro. They soon formed a partnership based on their mutual love of food, family and Gembrook. Together, they own and run The Independent.

This month Mauro will share five traditional Argentinian dishes that he serves at the restaurant. By the end of the month you’ll have five recipes to make your own Argentinian feast at home!

A Dreamy Seaside Artist’s Studio On A 19th Century Farm

Of all the fantasies in all the world, being an artist by the sea is surely one of the most popular. To do so on 19th-century farm on the cliff of a breezy peninsula is simply the stuff of fairytales!

The owners of historic Spray Farm on the Bellarine Peninsula engaged Watts Studio and Amiconi Architect to design a new studio on the ocean side of the property where the pair of artists could spend days painting and looking out over the sea. Taking the heritage-listed homestead and the history of the farmhouse locale as inspiration, the designers created a space greatly informed by surrounds but with its own contemporary characteristics.

With sweeping views out over Corio Bay and the You Yangs mountain range, the main point became to design a building where both artist and architecture could settle into the landscape.

A Family’s Semi-Rural Home in Narre Warren North

All homes tell a story, but this is especially true of the Narre Warren North home of Sarah Woodhouse and Brad Nicholls’ of Nicholls Design.

The Nicholls’ family home is located on a 100-acre property, owned by Brad’s family for 55 years, alongside the 170-year-old homestead where Brad grew up, and where his mother still lives! Here, three generations of the Nicholls family live and work in close proximity – Sarah and Brad’s furniture business is based on the property, too!

This modernist-inspired family home is actually the second iteration of Sarah and Brad’s house, after their original home (built in 2006) tragically burned down. The central rammed-earth wall was one of the only elements to survive, and forms the centrepiece of their new home, completed in 2012.
