This Emerging Textile Designer Creates Handcrafted Homewares That Feel Like Future Heirlooms

Megan McNeill’s first job out of uni was at a bed linen brand, where she worked 9-5, while also running her own independent fashion label, Rouda. She put out two collections, all whilst still working her full-time job, so it’s safe to say this Melbourne-based creative was born to be in textiles!

After a stint in London working for a print studio, Megan returned to Australia over a year ago and launched her own textile brand – Trinket Solo – all on her own.

Now, she designs and tufts her collection of rich, textural cushions, rugs and blankets from a warehouse space in Brunswick that she shares with a coterie of fab, women-led creative businesses. Living the dream!

A Family Home Of Understated Glamour In Studley Park

Emma Abrahams, founder and creative director of Heart of Bone, is a woman with a distinct sense of style. So, it stands to reason that her home would have equal flair!

We take a tour through the renovated 1970’s Studley Park house that Emma shares with husband Justin (co-founder and director of Pedla), their two kids aged 6 and 12, Ghost the black German shepherd and Shadow the black rescue cat. Despite Emma’s style credentials, she lost the battle with Justin to fit out the home in an all black palette – instead Justin triumphed with his preferred bright, white walls. A win for everyone, we think!

A Truly Sympathetic Mid-Century Home Restoration

This 1960 Ivanhoe East house, originally designed by architects Hipwell, Weight & Mason, was close to perfection upon its completion. Subsequent ‘90s renovations unfortunately compromised its design integrity, leading to a recent interior restoration by Pop Architecture.

Looking to the original house plans for inspiration, Pop Architecture enhanced the home’s spirit by removing superfluous details and introducing subtle modern materials. The home’s leafy outlook to the Yarra River was also reinstated, once again serving as the home’s intended focal point.

November is National Health Food Month

National Health Food Month is a time for Canadians to learn more about their food choices and embrace a healthy lifestyle.

Organized by the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA), November is National Health Food Month—a time for Canadians to learn more about their food choices and embrace a healthy lifestyle. It’s also a time for the CHFA to educate Canadians, reminding them that natural health products are regulated, safe, effective, and a wonderful preventative strategy.

And it looks like Canadians are getting excited by the prospect—according to the CHFA, 71 percent of Canadian consumers have used a natural health product. In fact, organics and natural health is a $3.5 billion industry, which has prevailed despite significant challenges, including the recession and the harmonized sales tax in BC.

The CHFA recommends celebrating National Health Food Month by:

  • eating more whole foods
  • learning about natural health food and product options
  • choosing more organic products

Stop by your local health food store to take part!
